INTERNATIONAL CULTURAL DAY AT USJ
The Universidade de San Jose (USJ) Macau celebrated the International Cultural Day on June 8, 2011. This was the first time the university had organized such an affair which was aimed to promote the diverse cultures and mutual respect and understanding among the students and the faculty coming from different countries. The USJ which is the only Catholic University in Macau, where our brothers are attending their theology course, and some of the fathers are working as professors at the University.
The students from different countries wore their national dress and prepared their indigenous food to be shared by all.  The cultural program which began at 5:30 PM at the Auditorium was inaugurated by the Vice Rector, Professor Ivo Carneiro who gave the opening speech. Different programs and presentations were made by the students and the faculty members. Each showed and presented the beautiful and famous places of their countries via power point presentation and gave performances in dance and music. There were about 200 participants.
I am very happy and proud because I had the chance to participate in this kind of activity. As a representative of the Burma students, Brother Hilario and myself and Annie (Burmese student at USJ) prepared a short PowerPoint presentation about Burma and shared three kinds of our native delicacies. Our Korean brothers (Brother Sebastian and Brother Antonio) together with some Korean students cooked their famous topoki (glutinous rice cakes cooked in chili sauce) and kimchi with pan fried pancakes which were very tasty.
The celebration ended at 9:00PM which culminated in a raffle draw for all present. The participants bade farewell to all in their own languages. The USJ international cultural day was a great success!
This occasion can begin something promising for the future. I thank the USJ administration and staff for hosting such a celebration. Because by doing so, we can know each other better and we can learn how to respect one another in order to live in harmony.
