NEW MASTER OF STUDENTS

Fr. Jarvis Sy Hao, OP, is the new Master of Students in the Province’s Studentate in Macau. He takes the place of Fr. Lucio Gutierrez, OP. After consulting the Council of the Province, Fr. Javier Gonzalez, OP, Prior Provincial, appointed Fr Jarvis as Master of  students he was appointed January 8, 2011.

Fr Jarvis is the Socius of the Fr. Provincial. He was born in Manila, where he entered the Dominican missionary Province of Our Lady of the Rosary. He studied his philosophy at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila. He studied the first years of his theological institutional courses at “San Pedro Martir” in Madrid, Spain, and finished them at the University of Santo Tomas. He has a licentiate and a master’s degree in philosophy, and a bachelor’s degree in theology from the UST Ecclesiastical Faculties. Fr. Jarvis was ordained a priest in Manila on April 13, 1991. He worked in Taiwan and has taught philosophy and theology courses in different centers of studies and religious institutes in the Asia Pacific region. The 47 years old dynamic Dominican is a much sought-after speaker and retreat master. He represents a most welcomed addition to our Priory and, of course, Studentate.

Fr. Lucio Gutierrez, OP, was the Master of Students from October 2009 to December 2010. Due to a grave and debilitating illness, Fr. Lucio was transferred to Manila on September 17, 2010, and confined first at the Hospital of the University of Santo Tomas and later at St. Martin de Porres Hospital, where he still is. Since last December he is assigned to our Convent of the “Santa Cruz” in San Juan City, Metro-Manila. St. Dominic’s Priory is most grateful to Fr. Lucio, a distinguished historian, dedicated Dominican – man of God.
