There is no doubt that the priesthood is a blessing, not only to the Church but to the world as well. Priests are signs of God’s love and a sign that he is still working in the world, still carrying out his plan of redemption.

They are today being sent by the Lord to be messengers of mercy, stewards of the holy mysteries, and teachers of the truth about God and dignity of the human person. 

The Lord says to you: “It wasn’t you who chose me, but I chose you, and I appointed you to go and bear fruit that will endure.”

Pope Francis calls the Church at this moment to reach out to the places where people suffer. In today’s reading, the prophet speaks about priests’ particular vocation: The Lord has sent me to bring good news to the afflicted, The brokenhearted he binds up. So that all who mourn may be comforted.
